So Here's How It Works...

Here's the trick. Big steps: Hard. Tiny steps: Easy. By weaning yourself off the nicotine slowly enough, you practically eliminate the withdrawal symptoms. You do that by stepping down from the strong smokes in such tiny steps that your body won't even notice the declining nicotine levels.

On this site are the "Tar", Nicotine, and Carbon Monoxide numbers for over 1200 varieties of cigarettes.

Step 1...

On the data page, click the letter (A to Z) for the brand you are currently smoking, find your brand and variety, and note the "Tar" and Nicotine content.

Step 2...

Click the number (< 0.5 to 22) that represents one number less than the "Tar" level of your current brand and variety.

Find varieties in that list which have the same or slightly less nicotine than your present brand and that you think you might like. Try a few of those, a pack at a time, until you find one you like, (it's easier than you think). When you find a brand/variety you like, switch to them exclusively. After a carton or two, you will have become accustomed to them, and your old brand, should you try to smoke them again, will taste incredibly strong.

Step 3...

Repeat steps 1 and 2 every few weeks/cartons until you find yourself smoking cigarettes that are among the lightest on the market.

It's that simple!

At that point, whatever method you choose to finish the job will work better and be easier to do because the addiction will simply be much smaller!

A couple of quick notes...
  • You could use "Tar" or Nicotine levels to accomplish the same thing. As a general rule, as one of the numbers goes down, so does the other. I chose to use "Tar" because that left me more distinct divisions, or possible steps, and therefore, smaller steps. Also, it is my opinion that the "Tar" is what determines how strong a cigarette will taste, and the point of the technique is to make the transition as easy as possible, so changing the taste of the cigarettes in the smallest possible increments just made more sense to me.

  • The cigarettes will get more expensive as you approach the lower numbers. I'll let you make up your own mind about why they price them that way. Since they are going to be considerably more expensive, now is probably a good time to get serious about finding a source for cheap cigarettes. My advertising contracts do not allow me to offer help with that on this site. If you like, you can visit the parent site at  MikeSargent.Biz, where I can more easily provide help with the search.

  • TINY STEPS! ... TINY STEPS! ... TINY STEPS!
If you want to fail, just take large steps. That way you can guarantee withdrawal symptoms and frustration... perfectly good reasons to abandon the plan and accomplish NOTHING.

Now,  On to the Numbers...
